Tri-Cities to receive a $40,000 grant to implement Smart Kootenays Mobility Platform

The communities of Nelson, Castlegar, Rossland and Trail, in partnership  Communities Futures, Selkirk College and local technology entrepreneurs worked collaboratively to apply for the BC Smart Communities Pilot funding to develop and test a mobility platform that will provide area residents with information about road safety, closures, wait times and natural disasters. The platform will help people make smart transportation decisions, resulting in safe and efficient travel that decreases accidents and reduces pollutants.

The City of Castlegar is situated at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers. This relatively new (incorporated in 1966) city sits in a valley steeped in the heritage and culture of the Doukhobors who migrated here in the early 20th century. As a service centre for much of the West Kootenay, residents and visitors will find many amenities, including access to parks and outdoor recreation, and a number of arts and cultural activities and events.
