The communities of Nelson, Castlegar, Rossland and Trail, in partnership  Communities Futures, Selkirk College and local technology entrepreneurs worked collaboratively to apply for the BC Smart Communities Pilot funding to develop and test a mobility platform that will provide area residents with information about road safety, closures, wait times and natural disasters. Named after the Dewdney Trail which passed through the area, Trail was incorporated on June 14, 1901. The Columbia River flows through the heart of the city, and has shaped its story over time – from mining to sternwheelers, power supply to recreation. With significant civic pride, the City of Trail proudly displays “The Home of the Champions” monument in recognition of local individuals and groups who have excelled in their chosen field of endeavor.
