Results of 2015 Poll of Residents Released

The results of the RDI’s annual poll of residents are now available.
Each year, the Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute (RDI) conducts a telephone survey of residents of the Columbia Basin-Boundary region. Undertaken as part of the State of the Basin initiative, the poll forms a component of the RDI’s research into trends and conditions related to well-being in the Basin-Boundary. In past years, the goal of the survey has primarily been to understand residents’ perceptions of well-being in their community. This year, survey design also emphasized understanding residents’ experiences and behaviours related to important well-being topics.
Highlights include:

  • 25% of respondents feel they are better off financially as compared to 6 months ago (down from 34% in 2014)
  • most poll respondents spend at least 5 screen hours outside of work
  • 85% of respondents planned to vote in the 2015 federal election
  • Half of respondents donated over $100 to charities and non-profits
  • 78% of respondents indicated they are now seeing impacts of climate change in the region
