Over 1,200 institutional leaders, senior government officials, international partners, faculty and students gathered in Halifax this May for the World Congress of the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP), an international network of colleges. The theme of the conference was Driving the Global Economy with a focus on stimulating dialogue on the influence of education on societies, economies and urban and rural communities. Themes included: local and global innovation; indigenous peoples; access for the disadvantaged; sustainability; and transformational leadership.
The RDI’s Regional Innovation Chair in Rural Economic Development, Dr. Terri MacDonald, was invited to present on Regional Development in Partnership: The Case of the Columbia Basin RDI. Dr. MacDonald’s presentation shared context for the creation of the RDI, an overview of the RDI’s goals, the research framework for the RDI’s work and the RDI’s focus for upcoming year.
