Situated on the Crowsnest Highway 3, Midway (incorporated May 25, 1967) is located between Greenwood and Rock Creek. Midway’s current population is 375 (though the total population of the Boundary Country (including Grand Forks, Greenwood and Midway and Regional District Kootenay Boundary Areas C, D and E) totals 11,915). Beginning as a Canadian Pacific Railway centre point for distribution of iron ore in 1899, Midway became the western terminus of the Columbia and Western Railway by 1900. Midway once boasted a population of 6,000 during this mining boom. Local residents and tourists enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, biking, golfing and tubing down the beautiful Kettle River.
