Just west of the Continental Divide, the District of Sparwood with a population 3,618 is the most easterly community in British Columbia. Sparwood is the home of the Terex Titan – the world’s largest tandem axle dump truck. One of the highest-elevation towns in Canada, Sparwood’s economy is primarily supported by the open pit coal mining that takes place on a vast scale in the mountains on the east side of the Elk Valley. Residents and visitors enjoy world-class skiing, fishing, hiking and hunting.
